Corporate Learning Strategy: How it becomes a success

Is your Corporate Learning Strategy innovative and exciting? Three out of four employees feel that their company’s learning culture is no longer up to date. It’s no wonder, then, that innovative learning formats in corporate training and continuing education are often still sought in vain. Which corporate learning strategies you should definitely put on your agenda for 2022.

Leadership skills, technological know-how, and employees’ distinctive soft skills are considered essential factors for corporate success today. But many companies find it difficult to teach these skills. According to a recent survey, just a quarter of employees consider their company’s training programs to be “meaningful and useful.” Almost one-third think they are “well-intentioned but poorly done,” and the remaining 41 percent feel their employer’s corporate learning strategy is either oversized or an empty promise.

Realigning the old learning culture

What’s the reason for this? Quite simply, many companies still rely primarily on frontal instruction for corporate learning. Yet, it has long been proven that such formats can only contribute to knowledge enhancement to a limited extent: People acquire only ten percent of their professional knowledge through formal learning and 20 percent through imitation. The remaining 70 percent is acquired through learning by doing.  This 70-20-10 learning model shows how important it is to realign the corporate learning strategy. Companies should keep an eye on the following five trends:

Five trends for a future-oriented corporate learning strategy

  • Individualization
99 percent of corporate training programs based on the watering-can principle fail to meet needs. After all, the different needs and skills of individual employees can rarely be lumped together. Individualized training approaches are, therefore, considered one of the biggest future trends in corporate learning. They make it possible to select suitable content and learning methods precisely and thus set the course for first-class learning success. Innovative learning management systems (LMS) create the basis for this.
  • Flexibilization
Good planning is half the battle: Of course, a corporate learning strategy should be carefully prepared. Nevertheless, it is important that trainers remain flexible and do not stick too tightly to the planned procedure. In the future, improvisational talent will be the magic word. After all, only those who can align corporate training courses ad hoc with the participants’ actual needs will gain their undivided attention. Accordingly, it is important to design teaching materials and tools flexibly.
  • Promoting soft skills
Technical expertise is important, but it is no longer the only corporate learning strategy. Soft skills are rapidly gaining in importance. Social skills, the ability to work in a team, creativity – these already make a significant contribution to corporate success. The Stanford Research Institute International has found that 75 percent of long-term professional success depends on soft skills and only 25 percent on technical skills. So, it’s time that employers put their workforce’s soft skills into the focus of corporate training.
  • XR learning opportunities
Extended Reality learning opportunities are enjoying a rapid increase in demand. No wonder, since they pave the way for location-independent and thus cost-effective training and ensure that the practical transfer of theoretical learning content is effortless. This makes it much easier for users to acquire knowledge, and natural interaction with the content, instructors, and other learners increases educational success.
  • Microlearning
Microlearning aims to encourage learners to act, practice, and reflect by providing small, easily digestible chunks of information. Digital and interactive tools such as explanatory videos, knowledge tests, or animated presentations ensure that content is quickly and permanently anchored in the memory. Employers can score points in corporate learning, especially with generations X, Y, and Z, with experience-oriented learning tidbits.

This has been the five trends for a future-oriented corporate learning strategy. The examples in this video show what modern learning solutions can look like.
