Employee Retention

Employee retention

An instrument for securing the future of companies

Employee retention is a topic of increasing importance in current times. Unfortunately, many companies find themselves in a situation where they focus on other things instead of their employees. The result is declining productivity, poorer communication, lower loyalty to the company, and decreasing levels of innovation.

Set positive incentives

Employee retention is an essential part of human resources policy and includes all of a company’s activities to keep or retain existing employees for as long as possible. The systematic bundling of different measures includes various positive incentives. For example, companies that attach importance to employee retention are attractive employers in the labor market and have better chances of recruiting successful managers.

An essential goal is to strengthen the corporate culture and promote work performance through an optimal working atmosphere. The focus is usually on talented, performance-conscious, and qualified employees, particularly interesting to companies and essential for maintaining skills and performance. Employee retention reduces turnover, which is of great importance primarily in management and key positions, reduces high separation costs, strengthens the working atmosphere and continuity of cooperation, and contributes to a positive employer image or employer branding. Employee retention is often also necessary for workers with key competencies difficult or impossible to attract on the labor market.

Employee retention should primarily target the highest-performing and most willing employees, who are particularly important for the quality and functionality of the company. To this end, numerous tools promote the engagement, including arranging tasks that increase individual commitment, such as participating in project groups, offering job changes, arranging career opportunities, providing working conditions that create an inspiring work environment, (e.g., appreciation, offering social feedback), or promoting social competence, among others.
