Digitalization

Digitalization

The fourth industrial revolution

The term digitalization is used ambiguously. Depending on the context, it describes the digital transformation and realization or execution of information and communication, or the digital modification of instruments, devices, and vehicles. At the same time, the term is synonymous with the “fourth industrial revolution,” i.e., the transition to the “information age” and “computerization.”

Profound change through digitalization

The term also stands for a profound transformation of the economy and society. Everything that can be digitized will be digitized sooner or later. Digitalization is not an end in itself, but it often makes more economic sense and gives companies a clear competitive advantage. Reasons are increased efficiency, but also market leadership through innovation and in private life more comfort and security.

Competence development in new work: From profession to competence

The professional idea, which is based on having undergone a clearly defined education and which has since developed further through real on-the-job training, is becoming more and more defensive. Today, the profession is at best an entrance ticket to the foyer of professional life, which after a few years is hardly suitable as a ticket for the next levels of the career ladder.
