Siemens and TÜV Rheinland for Occupational Safety in India.

SITRUST stands for Siemens & TÜV Rheinland Unique Safety Training. Here’s more about the Siemens TÜV Rheinland Global Skill Centre for Occupational Safety in Mumbai in partnership with TÜV Rheinland.

Zero incidents – it is achievable, according to one of the principles of the “Zero Harm Culture@Siemens” program. The occupational safety program launched in fiscal year 2012 is having an increasingly positive impact. Significant progress in enhancing the collaboration with contractors and improving the safety culture was made in the Middle East and in India.

sitrust-iindia-parkThe Global Skill Centre for Occupational Safety at Mumbai (see model of the center left) is an admirable example of this approach. SITRUSTTM stands for Siemens & TÜV Rheinland Unique Safety Training. This training program is the global answer for safety training in India in order to change the perception towards risk and safety. Since there were mostly theoretical classroom trainings available without practical approach in the past, SITRUST includes an extensive practical component with a simulated construction site environment and uses “learn the theory, master the practice” skills. The training incorporates simulations and practical case studies of complex risks combined with multiple hazards such as working at heights and close to high voltage power lines as well as welding/gas cutting activities, etc.

Through structured and practical site situations in the form of storyboards, SITRUST™ will provide hands-on training modules to:

  • Identify hazards,
  • Identify what is good/bad,
  • Identify what is acceptable/not acceptable,
  • Adopt safe practices, and
  • Identify and mitigate risks by having proper control measures in place.

[gdl_gallery title=”sitrust-india” width=”125″ height=”83″ ]

TÜV Rheinland and Siemens co-developed this practical simulation of site conditions and completed the program with a certification process. About 100 safety cards have been developed for trainers and trainees and integrated into 10 – 15 different story boards. About 5 to 10 participants per group will solve various subtasks. The complete program, after a theoretical briefing, includes 2 days in the training park. To maintain independence and ensure the assessment is neutral, all trainings and certifications are conducted exclusively by TÜV Rheinland.

Global Skill Center and the SITRUST™ Training Program:

  • have a multitude of object lessons within a small area
  • have a highly practical approach: “learning by doing”
  • simulate the object lessons under real work conditions
  • simulate the most common mistakes in work safety
  • train everyone to realize risk interactions
  • train everyone to do the right thing in the right way
  • prepare everyone for working in real projects

New Training Company in India

nife-postIn early December 2013 a Business Transfer Agreement was signed between TÜV Rheinland India and NIFE India regarding the takeover of the NIFE training activities. NIFE was founded in 1992 providing vocational training courses in the fields of Fire & Safety, Fiber Optics and Lift Technology. Headquartered in Kochi (Federal State of Kerala), NIFE operates 40 direct training centers and 28 franchise centers as well as 3 information centers covering 65 cities in 7 federal states of India. The new company is named TÜV Rheinland NIFE Academy and will form the backbone of TÜV Rheinland’s training organization in India together with the existing Academy activities in this country.

Our warm welcome greetings are directed to the 290 new colleagues in India!

About TÜV Rheinland NIFE Academy

The main provider of vocational education in India – NIFE, is now acquired by TÜV Rheinland. The new established TÜV Rheinland NIFE Academy supports more than 10.000 seminar participants in 65 locations in India.
Owing to a missing formal training system for tradespersons, technicians or skilled workers like the vocational training system in Germany, the TÜV Rheinland NIFE Academy offers great opportunities for  the primary target group of young people between the ages of 17 and 24. It is assumed that only around 4% of the population has formal vocational training, another 10% is trained without a qualification and 86% of the approximately 1.3 billion Indians do not have any formal vocational training.
The academy therefore offers an enormous range of seminars whether lasting for several days or to university degrees.

CAIRN Management Visits TÜV Rheinland in Cologne

From left to right: Stephan Schmitt, Volker Klosowski, Dr. Sunil Bharati, Dr. Manfred Bayerlein, Sidharth Balakrishna, Siegfried Schmauder, Carlo Humberg

CAIRN , one of the largest oil and gas companies in India, and TÜV Rheinland signed an agreement to work together to build and operate an advanced vocational training center in India – CAIRN Center of Excellence – in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. This partnership would be for 6 years with an option to extend it further on a mutual consent.

Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) with Directorate General of Employment & Training (DGET) together with German Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BiBB) and Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) started an initiative on “Forging India Germany Partnerships in Skills Development”. This initiative has been published during the visit of Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India on 10th April 2013 when celebrating India’s days in Germany.

On this occasion, there were several bilateral agreements being affirmed, among which the agreement between TÜV Rheinland and CAIRN was also signed in Berlin by Siegfried Schmauder, Executive Vice President Training and Consulting of TÜV Rheinland, and Dr. Sunil Bharati, Head of Corporate Affairs & Communications of CAIRN, in the presence of the responsible ministers from both countries.

In a following meeting in Cologne Dr. Manfred Bayerlein, CEO of TÜV Rheinland AG, quoted:

India has one of the largest and the youngest population in the world, yet it has been observed that about 80 percent of the Indian workforce does not possess identifiable marketable skills. I strongly believe that this initiative will help focusing on developing specific skills required by the industry and thus help in reducing unemployment.

“The project with CAIRN is a cornerstone in the internationalization of the Business Stream Training & Consulting.” added Siegfried Schmauder.
“With this initiative I foresee that it will definitely help in decreasing the skill gap faced by the industry and simultaneously increase the standard of living in the society.” quoted Enrico Rühle, Managing Director of TÜV Rheinland India.

Training Initiative for System Certification Auditors in South Africa

TÜV Rheinland Academy South Africa launches training initiative for system certification auditors

South Africa ranks among the group of the “Next Eleven”, thus countries with increasing importance in the global economic development. TÜV Rheinland is present in the Republic of South Africa since more than two decades with a local company, and since the end of last year a “TÜV Rheinland Academy” is also established with a separate organizational unit.

The training portfolio of the Academy consists – in addition to selected mobility topics – especially seminars in the field of management systems namely for external customers and for the employees of the TÜV Rheinland Group South Africa. In early February, the local auditors of the business unit systems and the staff in the back office were familiarized with the new accreditation guidelines of the ISO/IEC17021: 2011 (requirements for certification, auditors and technical staff).

How important this internal training initiative of the Academy is shows the high proportion of management system certification compared to total business of the TÜV Rheinland Group in South Africa. Therefore the latest accreditation standards must always be ensured.

“The quite young TÜV Rheinland Academy in South Africa is on the right track”, summarized Siegfried Schmauder, Executive Vice President Training & Consulting, as he presented the certificates to the participants on a visit to Pretoria.
